Crystal Beach is a New Favorite

Posted on March 21, 2020 by Laureen2014

This little Florida town, Crystal Beach, is an unincorporated community in Palm Harbor.    The houses are your typical small, old Florida homes next to gaudy mansions with stairs galore and a park full of beautiful oaks hugging you and a pretty cool beach.  It’s amazing! This morning was one of those days where the water was so calm, you can see every splish or splash.  It was low tide and these ripples excited us.  Watch closely on the right! [wpvideo SYk2KHv5] I saw this tree and just had to climb on it.  Not sure when the last time I

Animal Reincarnation

Posted on March 15, 2020 by Laureen2014

Whatever your beliefs, it’s fun to imagine life as an animal.  I like to play the game, “What would you be if you came back as an animal?”  Often, people will surprise you with their answer.  It’s a creative way to get out of your comfort zone, think about your future, the unknown, and to have a laugh or cry.  Getting in touch with your emotions is the easiest self-care.  It’s free and you can do it anywhere.  The hardest part is doing it. If you don’t know your animal reincarnation, think about it, and see if you find a

Up or Down?

Posted on March 5, 2020 by Laureen2014

Walking up and down stairs were never a challenge before my vestibular challenges. Now, I am able to walk up and down with more confidence.  Usually, I manage better with holding on to the railing, but today I challenged myself without holding on.  It used to be that walking up was easier than walking down.  I learned to feel and count the steps while walking down instead of looking down.   The good news is that walking down isn’t so bad anymore.  If you look closely, I walk with alternating steps which takes lots of balance.  It took some time

Growing My Hair Out Again

Posted on March 1, 2020 by Laureen2014

I decided it’s time to grow my hair out for donation again.  After all, this is my year of giving back.  It will take more than this year to get at least 8 inches, but I have to start now.  This will be my third time donating my hair to the company called Children With Hair Loss.  I like them because they take grays and only need 8 inches.  Both of my children have donated their hair too.  It’s an amazing feeling to help children get a wig made from my hair. Below are the free wig kits that each child receives

Where’s Your Happy Place?

Posted on February 23, 2020 by Laureen2014

[wpvideo EEZcouDZ] Sunday is a day to reflect on all things that make you happy.  The beach was simply beautiful today.  Temps in the low 70’s, light breeze, calm surf, and the warmth of the sun.  Walking and relaxing on the beach brings us joy and happiness! Where’s your happy place?  If you don’t know, then it’s time to find it.  Wherever it is, make sure you go there again and again.  Sometimes we take things for granted and don’t make the time and effort to be in our happy place.  Be happy, it looks good on you.

The VIBE is Here

Posted on February 16, 2020 by Laureen2014

I mentioned in a prior post that I want to give back this year.   I decided to start a support group for others who JDFR “just don’t feel right.”  The support group is called VIBE for Voyaging Into Balanced Energy.  Any VIBER with a vestibular/balance condition is welcome to join the support group.  The goal of the group is to meet other VIBERs, share personal stories, learn new therapies, coping skills, and get good vibes.  A VIBER’s day is different everyday and it gets lonely.  My hope is for VIBERs to unite and balance together. I want to thank

Cincy Road Trip

Posted on February 8, 2020 by Laureen2014

I had a recent opportunity to visit Cincinnati with my wife.  I didn’t know much about this city and it wasn’t on my radar at all.  Turns out, it was a pretty cool town. Amazing art murals on every street, delicious eats, Art Deco architecture, historic buildings and snow!  Who can ask for anything more? This mural is my favorite.  I am amazed at this masterpiece every time I look at it.  When you stand below it, you feel like all the gorgeous fruits and veggies are about to fall on your head.  I was told that budding student artists

Bring on 2020!

Posted on January 4, 2020 by Laureen2014

When I see 2020 and when I say 2020, it sounds so futuristic.  How did we get here? The days go by so fast now. I’m so thankful that I got my color back in 2019.  This year, I want to challenge myself to do more, see more colors and feel better everyday.  I have a few goals in mind and hope you do too! I wish you a year of good health, happiness and personal accomplishments!  Peace.

The Lady Can Dance

Posted on December 27, 2019 by Laureen2014

Today is mom’s birthday!  This video was taken in Atlanta on 7/12/13, just 2 weeks after one of mom’s many strokes.  She loved to sing and dance and boy did she have rhythm. Music played a big part in mom’s recovery from strokes.   On many occasions, she would sing songs and we were amazed at her ability to remember the words and the tunes.  Mom was so talented in many ways.  I miss her everyday.
