Let’s Go Fly a Kite!

Posted on July 21, 2019 by Laureen2014

All you need is a little wind and a beautiful day!  When’s the last time you flew a kite? I thought so.  Be a kid again and fly your kite.  It’s easy, uplifting, and just fun!

Another Moth Sighting

Posted on July 17, 2019 by Laureen2014

This time it was Layla who spotted this large, beautiful moth.  If it wasn’t for Layla and her curiosity, we wouldn’t have seen it.  This male Polyphemus moth was hiding under a red pickup truck parked at the gas station where we stopped to buy gas.  What a sight! Polyphemus moths are one of the largest silk moths.  It is named after Polyphemus, the giant one-eyed cyclops in Greek mythology, because of its large eyes on its hindwings.  You can’t see the eyes on this moth.  They’re hiding from us.  Why? Moth sightings have different meanings.  This is my second

I Spy a Reddish Egret

Posted on July 7, 2019 by Laureen2014

I love birds.  I want to come back as a pelican.  They gracefully glide above the water just barely skimming it.  Yesterday, I spied this fascinating rare reddish egret on the North Beach at Honeymoon Island.  Watch its playful dance!   The energetic dance is a feeding behavior and not just for fun.  The egret spreads its wings to cast a big shadow so it can see and spear tiny fish in the shallow water.   Watch at the very end.  Got one!  Amazing! Heavy Petting

No, it’s not what you’re thinking!  It’s about something else; you have to use your imagination.  Petting animals is very comforting and soothing.  Look what I found!   [wpvideo WZRce7Fb]

Hotlanta Reaquaintances

Posted on June 17, 2019 by Laureen2014

A recent trip to Hotlanta was an eye opener.  I was driving on Peachtree and Piedmont Roads like a local.  A little aggressive, but not too much.  There were so many expensive cars flying by me – Mercedes, BMW, Audi – and more.  I was afraid I might hit one.  I’m used to regular cars and mostly big, loud pick-up trucks in my town.  I was staying in Sherwood Forest overlooking the golf course, with a dear friend who I haven’t seen in quite some time.  She attended to all of my needs, including morning coffee, breakfast, a toothbrush, socks,

Luna Day & Blue Ghost Night, oh my!

Posted on June 8, 2019 by Laureen2014

It just doesn’t happen.  Apparently it does in Brevard.  It happened this past Sunday, June 2, 2019, the day before my 30th wedding anniversary and 2 days before my Dad’s day of passing. Sean and I were on our morning walk to the Brevard Music Center.  We spoke to a nice lady who was admiring what she called a butterfly.  Sean said it was a moth, and I believed him.  As it turns out, my sweet 9 year old niece saw our picture and said “It’s a Luna moth.”  How interesting!  Samantha’s cat is named Luna.  But, there’s more. Some Days are Tough

Posted on May 29, 2019 by Laureen2014

Yesterday was my tough day.  It marked mom’s 4th year of physically leaving me.  I thought it gets easier with time, but apparently, it doesn’t.  It hits you hard when you don’t even expect it.  For me, it was 3 am, and I was up and reminiscing, crying and missing mom.  Mom was full of life and energy.  I miss sharing a laugh with her among so many other things. These are a few special moments we shared together in Dunedin.  I hope I look just like her and sing like her when I’m in my 80’s.  She looks marvelous!

Best Sunday Drive

Posted on May 26, 2019 by Laureen2014

This quaint neighborhood, Crystal Beach, is tucked away west of Palm Harbor bordering the St. Joseph Sound.  It’s full of one-of-a-kind homes ranging from bungalows, old Florida homes, McMansions and mountain-looking homes.  No two houses are the same which gives it that small town charm. The neighborhood park is full of gigantic oaks with twisting branches and big blue eyes staring at you.  We were lucky to experience the horse and buggy rides around the park.  What a treat! Today was reminiscent of new discoveries and family Sunday drives.  The kind that make you feel all warm and fuzzy.  I

Daily Resolutions

Posted on May 25, 2019 by Laureen2014

You don’t have to wait for the New Year to make resolutions.  I am moved to make a resolution as I experience the need to do so right away.  As a society, we put too much pressure on ourselves to make resolutions on January 1.  That’s silly! Be strong with your purpose, intent, desire and decisions everyday.  Don’t put it off for the new year.  Who cares what other people think?  You have to be happy with the decisions you make for yourself and take pride in your daily choices.  If you have the will to make it happen, then

The Power of Crying

Posted on May 19, 2019 by Laureen2014

I am a firm believer in listening to your body.  It’s the best medicine.  We don’t pay enough attention to our bodies and we ignore what it’s telling us.  Our bodies are very aware beings controlled by a fascinating brain.  Let’s take the time and be better listeners. Yesterday, I had a very sudden painful onset of an earache in my right ear.   Yes, it’s the same ear that was stricken with those nasty displaced crystals.  It was painful to the touch and my ear felt like it was about to deliver a baby.   The pain went to
